Stay the Course: Story of the Day

"There are cracks in the road. It's going to rain again. You fought, and the anger is still clenching in your chest. The loneliness hurts. The path is steep. But it is not all despair. You find love, sleeping somewhere warm and dark, and by some miracle you grab its wild mane and coax it from the cave to ride again. Even with the rough and jagged road. Even with the rain."

Here's just a sampling of some of the new and restocked items that have arrived recently! Not pictured (because they wouldn't cooperate) are an unruly gang of new Folkmanis puppets. We hope you'll stop in during the Highland Festival festivities this weekend to see all the wonderfulness! And maybe enjoy our featured drink of the month - the Ballyhoo Buttered-Scot Breve...so yummy!

Dear patrons -
Now that we have hit lemonade season here at Ballyhoo, our soup pot has decided to go on an extended vacation (a decision reached by data analysis, actually - soup sales drop off considerably when warmer weather arrives). Because we make all of our soups in-house, it's just become too unwieldy for us to facilitate well during these months.
So here is our revised seasonal calendar for both lemonade and soup service:

Lemonade available April 1 - September 1
Soup available September 1 - April 1.

Dear friends,

Tomorrow - May 1 - is International Workers' Day, an annual observance that began as commemoration of the 1886 Haymarket Riot in Chicago. This year there is a national strike planned under the banner "May Day Strong: Workers Over Billionaires" with the encouraged collective action of "No School. No Work. No Shopping." While we are in solidarity with this effort and believe strongly in the necessity and power of collective citizen action in the face of anti-democratic regimes, the messaging for tomorrows' action should have included a clear exception for small businesses. We will be open tomorrow because, quite frankly, we can't afford not to be - we need to be able to continue paying our hard-working wonderful staff who provide so much to this community. There are many small businesses - micro businesses like us - who aren't part of the billionaire corporate class doing so much damage to our nation. Many of our vendors are small businesses as well. And many of us are seriously struggling right now.

So we would like to encourage folks - if you so choose or need to shop tomorrow - consider supporting small businesses only and pay with cash if you can.
Shop small.
Shop local.
As always...thank you.
