World renowned bee researcher Dr. Lloyd Watson, was best known for being the first person to artificially inseminate the Queen Bee. Because of his research, he and his wife had an over abundance of honey and needed to find creative ways of using it up. In 1910, his wife Olive started developing her candy recipes using nature's confection-honey, as the key ingredient to make her nougat centers. Afte
r years of encouragement from family and friends, Olive founded "The Honey Pot" in 1922. In 1977, Olive had picked her friend and "worker bee" at the Honey Pot, Virginia Bassett to take over her business as she was 94 years old and her health was failing. Virginia asked her sister Francelia to join her in the business as the person who would hand dip the soft chewy nougat centers in the delicious chocolate while Virginia was making the nougat and packing the candy into gift boxes, making them ready for customers to pick up. In 1984 Francelias daughter, Connie McGraw joined the team to learn all aspects of the sweet candy business. Connie bought the business from her Aunt in 2006 and is proud to carry on a family tradition of making fine quality gourmet candy, using an artful blend of fresh ingredients in small batches and using the same methods of candy making that Olive Watson used in 1910 when she was developing her recipes.
