SCIENCE OF COLOR :: Have you ever considered getting your colors done? IMO, it helps make more deliberate decisions that offer better cohesiveness in your separates. The general idea is to create balance in all the elements- skin, eyes, lip color, hair color are enhanced by understanding what chromas integrate with the overall “you”!

WEEKEND WARRIOR :: The funniest take away from the weekend is when she shared how exhausting this was. This process can be mentally and physically taxing.
The very first thing we did after a mind cleansing walk was to identify her lifestyle and the areas she wants to put intuitive outfits in place. Everyday run around & casual dinners were the two places she gets tripped up. I showed her a few simple ideas that satisfy those outfits which she loved. Visual goals of what we’re aiming for, set a precedent before we even begin looking at her wardrobe.

I explained that we need to remove the distractions and organize the clothing to be engaging. Less pieces will offer more solutions when there’s a plan… or a stylist with a plan!

She set up racks by category and completely emptied her clothing from her closet. This was a treat for me and really helped clarify what each task entailed by looking at where we were on the rack.

The first category we hit FRIDAY…. Tops. Why? Because this is a large category but by tackling those first, we save time as we move through other categories. The principles of why certain tops don’t work starts to apply to every category afterwards. A language is developing and we’re creating connections to pieces along the way.
Saturday was about her everyday dresses and how to style them. We made discoveries that belts can help.

Sunday morning, I went into speed round. We hit spring knits (tops part 2), all denim and spring summer shoes. I set a timer and we finished within an hour. Decisions start getting made quickly once you’re in the zone. Then we finished with specialty dresses.
I challenged the outliers. The hardest part is coming to terms that while the clothing may fit and is in good condition, it just no longer serves you. It can seem wasteful too but beyond what your rational mind is trying to justify - we want to live lighter. Learning to let go without the guilt starts remapping the brain.

We are going to continue by setting up Virtual Meetings to help put outfits together. I’ve identified she’s print heavy and will start sending links to solutions that will build functional outfits using the pieces she a

It’s a wardrobe editing weekend! I’m heading north on Amtrak to tackle a closet whose owner has requested a ruthless clean out. “I can’t get dressed with the clothing that’s hanging in my closet!” Sound familiar? It happens… life moves on and your wardrobe no longer serves you. There may be some pieces that have been recently added but they are not playing well with what clients once imagined were “forever” items.
If you’re one of the many who’ve listened to stylist, Erin Walsh’s philosophy regarding editing and getting dressed, you might find this weekend’s exercise inspiring. You may want to schedule a session yourself.
“…stylist Erin Walsh, advocates for transforming your closet by removing clothes that do not fit your current body or “future self,” treating the wardrobe as a tool for confidence rather than a “graveyard” of the past. The approach emphasizes keeping only what makes you feel great now, curating 3 key pieces, and organizing by category.”

I’ve been implementing this type of wisdom for years as a wardrobe architect and stylist. Wardrobes are similar to your refrigerator - it needs a regular clean out. When you let something new into your wardrobe, unbeknownst to you it will impact how you see the rest of your clothing. A new POV has been introduced. You aren’t choosing the same pieces you used to because the energy has changed.
If this feels familiar to you or someone you know, share my feed and follow along this weekend. I’m planning on sharing the BTS as well as explaining the WHY behind some of the hard decisions.
I DO believe we should dress how we want to feel as well as how we actually feel - it all depends on the day. Clothing can comfort us but it can also be a harsh reminder of who we no longer are. Letting go makes room for the person you are now as well as who you are becoming.
Clarity is a powerful place to exist! 💋

How does color analysis help define a wardrobe?
Last spring I had my colors analyzed after a client had been using her color personalized color deck to guide her shopping. When I came to do outfits, the colors were creating outfits with ease because the value, hue and chroma were creating harmony within her wardrobe. When you take into account our skin, eye and hair color, we each have our own dimensions of color that can be enhanced.
“The 12-Tone method of color analysis is based in part on the three dimensions of color, introduced by Professor Albert Munsell in 1905. Munsell brought clarity to color communication by establishing an orderly system for accurately identifying every color that exists.”
I attest this is a fascinating experience. Not only do you leave with a color deck, but Natalie guides you to makeup colors that enhance your natural palette. The three of us had loads of fun because their results were not as we imagined. Be prepared to be a bit disappointed until you unlock the HOW — meaning the colors you want to wear are in your color deck once you let go of your expectations. With some minor adjustments, you’ll find how these color shifts bring out a vibrancy in your overall takeaway.

OUTFIT MATH :: “Why is putting a functional work wardrobe giving me angst?” This is a question that I hear often. Whether or not it’s articulated directly or indirectly, the answer often has to do with how we feel about our bodies.
My personality testing has identified as exhibiting empath tendencies. Working in fashion is one thing but styling successfully requires a certain amount of psychology.
Much of my job entails reinforcing the mathematical equation surrounding a wardrobe.
1. Waiting for that day you feel your body is worthy of investing in? Mistake.. it’s worthy today. One great outfit is the path toward confidence.
2. Once you have one outfit, you can be on your way to the next few - with a strategic plan.
3. Planning is imperative to a successful & functional wardrobe. It’s an ongoing math equation where you can add and subtract elements in order to create one more functional outfit for the season.
4. The reason people feel angst is because they don’t have a plan (or a stylist with a plan). And planning requires bandwidth to take on another major project.
Never assume developing a functional wardrobe is something you can fit in around your other responsibilities. It requires a lot of time, patience, failures (which can equate to spending money without significant/successful results!) For many it can be a passion project but for many others, time is money. Do you avoid tallying the price of the pieces you don’t wear on a regular basis? Investing in a pilot that can land the plane for you and your wardrobe is a viable option.
I now offer virtual services. If you are interested in a singular appointment or an annual subscription based service, comment CURIOUS below and I’ll send you the deets.

SIGNATURE JEWELRY:: I’m an advocate of owning less and wearing more! Choosing a signature piece of jewelry is one way to define your style. I love rings and own a variety of larger pieces that have lots of personality. Jewelry can also have the power to bring deep meaning and stories that define your life.
I’ve followed Jane Pope since I first discovered a 2008 article in Vogue that defined her collection as unique and elevated. One particular ring stayed on my wish list for 15 years before I finally claimed it as my own. I had never seen the ring in person and ordered online through communication with the studio. They were incredibly easy to work with 🫶🏼.
The story of my draw to Jane Pope’s jewelry became more personal after I realized Jane’s husband’s uncle was one of Mark’s good friends, Hamp Townsend. Coincidences are a cover for deeper connections within the universe IMO. Oh! Jane also happens to be a grad of Episcopal High School in Alexandria.
I’m not quite done with her stunning pieces and hope it won’t be another 15 years before I add another. Maybe this August I’ll commit to celebrating a decade with more good vibes that this ring brings - the only question would be which piece would be next??
