We offer a variety of services to our customers, and repair all makes and models of sewing machines and vacuum cleaners. Sewing classes are scheduled almost every week, with topics that satisfy every sewer's desire.

It's with a heavy but happy heart that I am announcing the closing of Sun Sew Vac on June 29, 2024.

Sun Sew Vac's first day of business was on November 1, 1975 and we have served customers and the Alexandria community for 48 years. During that time, our business was honored as the International Dealer of the Year in 2015 and inducted into the Sewing Machine Dealer Association (SMDA) and Vacuum Dealer Trade Association (VDTA) hall of fame in 2018.

We’ve had the privilege to serve many customers including local schools, restaurants, cleaning businesses, and government entities. Sun Sew Vac gave back to the community in many ways, including supporting youth athletics, local theater departments, at-risk youth programs and donating to countless fundraisers and initiatives.

Thank you to our loyal customers for your support - it's been a pleasure working with all of you. Sun Sew Vac has had many dedicated staff members over the years who helped us move forward using their expertise and incredible talents to educate customers.

None of this would have been possible without the support of my family. I would like to thank my amazing wife and my family for not only tolerating my long hours and missed events over the years, but for working at and supporting the store in many ways.

In my retirement, I’m looking forward to spending time with family and spoiling my grandkids and teaching them how to fish and catch crabs.

▪️June 1, 2024: We will no longer accept repairs of vacuums or sewing machines.

▪️June 15, 2024: Last day for special orders.

▪️June 22, 2024: All repairs must be collected by COB, last date to honor gift cards. Any machines that are not collected by June 22 will be donated.

▪️June 29, 2024: Official closing date! Open from 10AM - 2PM.

📣 Announcing the ICON, ICON 2, PERFORMANCE ICON CLUB 📣

The Pfaff Icon series of machines are almost limitless. There is SO much that they can do to aid your creative ambitions. We need to learn how to use everything these machines have to offer, and it is almost impossible to learn it all on your own. You will be amazed at how much you can actually do with these machines and you will be motivated to create items you never dreamed of. There will be a project associated with each session but you do not have to do the project. You will learn the process in class and then will take the instructions for the project home with you.

The classes will be offered periodically throughout 2023. Some of the classes will involve sewing only and some will involve embroidery. Those that involve embroidery will be for the Icon and Icon 2 machines but anyone with a Performance Icon is welcome to come to the class.

There are only 4 spaces available for each class so it is recommended that you sign up early. If you sign up and then find you must cancel, we ask that you cancel at least 1 week ahead of time as we will have a waiting list. Inclement weather policies will follow Fairfax County Schools.

The first session will involve sewing only so any of the Icon machines will be able to participate. You will not need your embroidery unit. The dates are as follows:

Friday, January 27, 2023 at 10am OR

Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10am

Tuition: 1 Class Pass or $35.

Bring your machine, a USB drive, a stylus if you want, a spool of bright colored thread

We are offering in-person Know Your Machine sewing classes this month! These classes are offered at no cost if you purchased your machine from us.

Learn the basics of your sewing machine, including proper needle and thread use, maintenance, tension adjustments, and buttonholes. You will need to bring your machine and all accessories to class. In addition, you will need a spool of either Mettler or Guttermann polyester thread (we have Mettler at Sun Sew Vac) and a pair of thread snips.
