We love a transformational design from Olga Buraya-Kefelian! Her brand-new design, PLEAT Tote, was published this week! We've already seen so many of you stop by to grab the Ispie Raffia to make your own. It is designed in three sizes and has the option for crochet raffia handles or attaching leather handles.

This fun summer crochet tote is origami, featuring a classic granny square technique. Like many of Olga's designs, this one transforms and can be folded easily for storage or travel!

Olga has included a whopping FOURTEEN video tutorials in her pattern, to ensure that you have success.

We have fall stitching on the mind! Our Must Make Monday feature today is Elizabeth Doherty's Squam Sweater. The wide boat neck makes this sweater easy to layer over button-downs or wear it by itself over jeans for a casual sweatshirt-like look. The top-down circular-yoke pullover uses simple slip-stitch patterning instead of stranded colorwork, making it accessible to new sweater knitters. New in space! Knitted Kalevala II follows in the footsteps of Jenna Kostet’s first knitting book, an international bestseller published in 2022. Continuing her journey into the world of mythology, tradition and stories, this sequel promises to captivate knitters and folklore enthusiasts alike.

We are delighted to welcome back Amy Manko and Ross Farm, a family farm in continuous operation for over 100 years. Come out and shop a huge variety of sheep breeds - Jacob, Cheviot, Leicester Longwool, Cotswold, Shetland, Florida Cracker yarns - plus Amy's imported UK Shetland, Wensleydale, and Norfolk Horn yarn too! We are so excited about this collab with to celebrate our 15th anniversary!

Working with the Spun Right Round team in Rochester, NY was so much fun. And the result is this amazing set of mini hanks in a gorgeous ombre of teals. In 2021, Vice President Kamala Harris visited fibre space for a planned press event. She wanted to meet with my team and me and discuss the challenges facing women-owned small businesses during the pandemic.

The day after the visit, I woke up to messages, videos, and screenshots of a prime-time cable TV host mocking her visit to my shop and joking that a yarn shop would, of course, be owned by a woman. (Maybe I should invite him to our monthly men’s knit and crochet night? Whether he knows it or not, some of his viewers shop our store!). They then went on to mock the VP herself, calling her the new “Crochet Czar” for the United States. While it’s not the first or last time my weird retail business is used as a punch line, it is probably the only time it will happen on national news!
So as any seasoned business owner would do under these circumstances, I took ownership of the term “Crochet Czar” and made it fun. We created this enamel pin to celebrate powerful women and their role in business, politics, and fiber arts throughout history. To make it even more meaningful, we will donate all profits to one of our favorite local non-profit organizations that empowers women to achieve their goals. Proceeds will be donated to our neighbors at ALIVE, the oldest continuously operating shelter for women in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Alive! House provides temporary housing for women and families in emergency and transitional situations. We are proud to be in their neighborhood and just a few doors away from this organization and its work.

We love a hybrid project, and this week’s Must Make combines crochet and knitting to create this lovely sweater ready for layering. You’ll crochet the clover motifs at the yoke and knit the body. A unique construction style lets you try the sweater multiple times to check the fit and customize the neck, length, hem, and sleeves. This piece is designed in De Rerum Natura Ulysse, a woolen yarn of soft white french (Mérinos d’Arles from Provence) and black Portuguese Merino (Merinos Petra from Alentejo Valley) produced in France in an ecological way. Our newest 15th birthday custom has landed in space! These incredible yarn “cages” are an innovative and stylish way to stitch on the go. Simply open the top snap, drop in your yarn, throw the handle on your wrist and stitch on the go! We developed these very special multi-colored options with Georgiana, owner of . She hand made each yarn cage at her Denmark studio with vegetable tanned leather. Each one is finished with our logo stamped into the leather in gold.

We’re delighted to welcome Sea Change Fibers to space! This yarn is part of our focus to bring you more breed-specific yarns.

Sea Change Fibers owner Sarah carefully researches and sources her bases from sustainable fibre producers, focusing on the environmental impact of the products she is sourcing. All her bases are climate-beneficial wool traceable from the pasture to the mill! We were first attracted to their yarns due to the vibrant color palette inspired by the colors of nature, especially those found in and around Monterey Bay and the redwood forests. The dyeing process at Sea Change Fibers involves careful and sustainable water and power use yet results in rich saturated color.
