Hi friends! Little guy and I have been down for the count with a gross generic cold (trust me, I took 3 COVID tests, it wasn’t that!). Even still, I’m churning out new pieces! I became a mom last year. The experience of parenting a small baby is beautiful, difficult, and all-consuming. Around 4.5 months—when he was beginning to sleep more and I could breathe ever so slightly—I put those complex pieces of this journey onto a canvas. 💕

I love creating. But I didn’t think I was able to create art. Precision and spatial awareness are some of my weakest areas, and every time I tried to paint a flower, it looked like a deformed amoeba. 🙃
And then one day, I was bored. So I picked up a small canvas, paint, and some paper towels. I began rolling and dabbing colors together. In the same way I can weave melodies together from my mind to the piano keys, I wove the emotions and scenes in my heart into this painting.
Everyone is creative! It’s just a matter of finding strengths rather than putting oneself in a box.

I poured out my grief about Afghanistan on a canvas last week using the colors of their flag. It’s a messy situation made up of resilient people, and I tried to reflect both of those truths here. All proceeds from this design will go directly to Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service Afghan Allies fund.
