16 years ago I had just moved to Washington DC. Riding the metro, walking through the streets towards the capitol, the energy was unreal. People in DC are usually all business, but that day people were laughing, crying, hugging, smiling at strangers. There was a overwhelming feeling of relief, elation, joy. To see so many people, but especially older, black Americans, crying with joy. Truly one of the best, most humbling moments of my life. It is beyond terrifying where we are today. This is not normal and I fear it may never be again.
