Hi! It’s been a while! I miss you! You may remember that I left my shop just over a year ago to unexpectedly take a job I stumbled upon at the ABQ Animal Welfare Department with the City of Albuquerque.
Even though I loved every minute of keeping my shop for close to seven years, I couldn’t be happier with my decision to make a huge change and my work life, currently.
I spent the first year with Animal Welfare as an Adoption Counselor, then in September I changed positions and I am now a Community Engagement Coordinator. I now manage the social media for the shelter, am working on developing Intake Diversion and Pet Support Services programs, and I work supporting the Foster and Volunteer Programs.
I had such a lovely social media following at Southwest Cactus, and now I’m asking if some of you may transfer over to follow my posts at on Instagram and Albuquerque Animal Welfare on Facebook Albuquerque Animal Welfare
Shop local, adopt don’t shop, and thanks!

Hello and Goodbye!
March 2024 will be the last month for Southwest Cactus at El Vado. Since August, I’ve been trying out a new full-time job with the city as an Animal Adoption Counselor in the Animal Welfare Department. My new job is working out for me and so I’m going to let Southwest Cactus go for now. I may come back to it at some other time and some other place, who knows.
Change always makes me sad. I’ve loved every single moment I’ve spent here at El Vado for the past 6+ years and I’ll miss it dearly. Thank you for supporting my small business through the years! Please come to the city shelter and find me when you’re looking to adopt a new pet!
