Spending Thanksgiving on the Yucatan in Mexico has made me feel a great sense of gratitude for being an American living at this time in the history of the world. I have met so many beautiful people who are smart, hard working individuals who will never be as blessed as I am simply because of where they were born. (The reality is that being a white male born in America has given me advantages in life that I am not always grateful for.). Spending this Thanksgiving day touring Ek' Balam (an ancient Mayan ruin) has provided some great perspective regarding the amazing people who lived on this continent for thousands of years before white Europeans arrived. Their rich culture, understanding of science and abilities to build great cities are a powerful reminder of the rich heritage of the land that I call home that existed long before my European ancestors reached theses shores. I am thankful this day for all of the peoples of North America both indigenous and European immigrants who call theses lands home.

Had the pleasure of giving an Elrick Classic 4 string some TLC today. It is always a joy to spend time with one of Rob's creations. If you haven't checked out an Elrick bass you are missing out on one of the finest basses you will ever play.

Covid rages on; life is ever changing and yet more guitarists than ever are enjoying the simple pleasure of making music. (It is, after all, the perfect pandemic pastime.) As we head into the fall and the realities of home schooling are setting in for me as a parent of two elementary aged kids, finding the best way to continue to provide the highest level of service to New Mexico's guitar players has been on my mind. With that in mind, it is with great pleasure that I am announcing that Fox Fletcher, operating as Mallory Guitars, will be joining the ABQ Guitarworks collective. Much like Dyno-Mike's Electronics and I have operated out of the shared space at 2611 Quincy for the last 11 years, Fox will be joining us to offer repair and setup services as an independent entity.

Many of you know Fox from his time working at Grandmas Music and Sound & Guitar Boy. Fox studied guitar repair at the Galloup School of Lutherie and has worked for the last several years at Collings Guitars in Austin.

Nothing is changing with ABQ Guitarworks. I will still be accepting work by appointment on Tuesday and Thursday and Dyno-Mike is still available for all of your tube amp needs. Mallory Guitars (Fox Fletcher) will now be accepting work by appointment on Wednesdays.

As always, if you would like to schedule an appointment with ABQ Guitarworks feel free to send me a FB message, call the shop or shoot me an email. If you would like to talk with Fox you can look him up here on Facebook where you will find all of the info you will need to get in touch with him.

Thanks for your years of patronage. (I am looking forward to serving all of you for MANY MORE!) Stay healthy and do what you can to keep those around you healthy and, as always, play lots of guitar!

Covid-19 update.
Starting May 19th, ABQ Guitarworks will be opened on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 until 5:00 for curbside drop-off and pick-up. In order to limit the number of people congregating at the shop, I ask that you call, message or email ahead to schedule a time. I am excited to see you all soon and to get back to helping all of your sick instruments.
Little by little, step by step we are all going to come through this safely. Please continue to avoid crowds and do all that you can to keep yourselves and those around you healthy and safe.

Just a quick note to say that while the shop is following State protocol and will be closed until April 10th (unless the recommendation for closure is extended), I am staying busy working from home. If you have a guitar in for repair, rest assured it is being finished up (if it isn't done already) and all work will be available to pick up as soon as I am able to reopen the shop door! I know that many of you are missing out on gigs and/or are otherwise missing work. You are all in my thoughts. Do everything you can to keep yourselves healthy and PLEASE do all that you can to keep those around you healthy. Keep on making music. If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to reach out to me via Facebook or leave a message on the shop phone and I will ring you back (I have been checking messages daily).
