Urban Aftermath is pleased to present “External Perspectives” an exhibition of portraits by internationally recognized artist Omar Hassib.
Raised in New York’s Capital Region and now based in Texas, Hassib’s distinct and clever visual language is rooted in his Egyptian heritage. His thought provoking paintings merge bold color, Arabic calligraphy, and geometric precision, with current events. With no formal training, his artistic practice is shaped by a lifelong immersion in art, community, mentorship, and pure instinct. Each work is richly layered, deliberate, and deeply personal.
At the center of this show is Palestine.
Through themes of grief, sacrifice, witness, resistance, and solidarity, Hassib’s work engages directly with history, identity, and injustice.
The exhibition showcases portraits highlighting authors with intimate knowledge of the occupied territories who documented what they witnessed. Exhibited alongside these books, the artworks create a direct dialogue between image and narrative.
This approach offers an entry point for those seeking to better understand Palestinian life through voices that are harder to dismiss. The selected books stand as essential resources for readers of all backgrounds.
So join us, meet the artist, enjoy refreshments, talk Palestine, and bring a print or two back home. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.
