As NorCal Captain of the Wheelmen I am gonna post this race info in Ohio for those of you close enough to attend. Subject: Ohio's First High Wheel Race — A Full Weekend of Events, September 10–13, 2026

Fellow Wheelmen,

Penny farthing racing is coming to Ohio — and we want you there.

The Ohio High Wheel Race makes its inaugural debut on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in the heart of historic downtown Plain City, Ohio. This event is timed to coincide with the Plain City Corn Carnival and the nation's 250th anniversary, and we believe there is no finer way to celebrate American cycling history than by racing the machine that started it all.

Please note: this is not a Wheelmen-sponsored event. It is an independently organized community race, and all are welcome.

A Full Weekend for High Wheelers

- Thursday, September 10 — The inaugural Ohio High Wheel Race through the streets of historic downtown Plain City, followed by the Corn Carnival Parade. Not ready to race? Ride the outer edge of the course at your own pace, or just join the parade — all are welcome.
- Friday, September 11 — A social gathering for high wheelers and enthusiasts. A great chance to connect, swap stories, and hangout.
- Saturday, September 12 — During the Plain City Corn Carnival, there will be a dedicated opportunity for demonstrations and showcasing — bring your penny farthings, your ordinaries, your old-time bicycles. Let the public see these machines up close.

Registration & Details
Registration is open now at highwheelraceohio.com. All the details you need — including how to register — can be found there.

Plain City is an easy drive from Columbus (~25 miles), with hotels in Dublin and Marysville just 15 minutes away. If you have time on the way in, the Bicycle Museum of America in New Bremen, Ohio is about an hour away — an incredible collection spanning the full history of the bicycle, for just $3 admission.

This is year one. Strong participation in 2026 is what builds the tradition and makes year two possible. Be part of the foundation.

For those going to the Davis Picnic Day Parade, slight change in entry number. We are number 51 now.

Hi All: since we are now unit 51 in the parade, the pre-parade gathering space (according to the map we were sent) is in the parking area just south of the tennis courts.
I had previously been told we would gather on the grass next to Calif. Avenue. when we were unit 52. I will confirm the new gathering location when I check in tomorrow morning by 8 am
Sorry about the confusion. The students who plan the parade have been impacted by UCDavis construction on Calif. Avenue
See you tomorrow

Thanks for being a part of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame entry in the 2026 parade. The following is information that you need to know:

1. Before participating in the parade you will need to sign a U.C. Davis waiver form. Group Waiver is for 18 and over, General Waiver is for riders under 18. Thanks if you have already sent me your signed waiver.

2. If you want to park for free in the Quad Structure parking lot on Howard Way (north entry off of Russell Blvd), you need to be there by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. They are closing the campus access streets Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Otherwise, parking behind (north side) of Davis City Hall at 5th and B Streets is also free.

3. Please be at the staging area on the grass area just north of Parking Lot 14 by 9:15 a.m. This is the same parking lot where we have staged for the last few years. We will be on the grass right next to California Ave. apparently next to the Walking Groups. Just come to the staging area, I will check-in our group by 8:00 a.m.

4. Since the parade ceremonies (speeches) begin at 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the grandstands on North Quad, they usually start lining up the first units in the parade on California Avenue around 9:15 a.m. Since we are toward the back of the lineup this year, I don’t see us exiting the staging area onto Calif. Ave until after 10:15 a.m. when the parade starts.
5.

6. The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame is designated as parade entry number ___52___. Just look for the highwheelers either on the grass next to Calif. Ave. or in the same parking lot as before.

7. Once the parade begins, we will follow the shortened parade route (turning north on E St. downtown instead of F St.) and end at the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame at 3rd and B Streets. The museum will not be open to the public…. but we will open it for highwheel parade participants after we take the traditional group photo on the front steps.

8. As always, safety is a priority. When the parade slows, please circle in a counter-clockwise direction. We will have some younger riders on mini highwheels so please watch out for them and for spectators who may dart in front of you without looking (this has happened). Right! I have neglected to post this invite for the annual City of Davis Picnic Day Parade. Should there be anyone wanting to join in and ride with us, please, reach out and let me know. I may have a few extra bikes available if you are feeling up to it!

The 112th Picnic Day will be held on Saturday, April 18. You are welcome to join us as we ride highwheelers and bicycles in the Hall of Fame & Museum parade entry.

Staging information is forthcoming. It is late this year because UC Davis is doing construction on California Avenue which is the street where we usually wait for the parade to begin. They will let us know where we will gather before the parade begins.

The parade route will mostly be the same... except that we will turn left/north on E Street in the downtown instead of one block farther on F Street. This will shorten the parade by one block while keeping F Street open for traffic.

Please let me know if you can ride with us again this year.
Best regards,

Whoo-Hoo! I shoulda made mention of this a while ago. The term "Boneshaker" is now our registered Trademark with the US Government. Serial #98707685 from June 17 of 2025 grants us the trademark. Boneshaker is official! We've been using that as our trade name for 53 years and it's finally official and legal! Now I gotta work on the website and get it updated. It is always listed as not secure even though there is no web commerce on the site and getting the new SSL is gonna help a bunch. As will a small overhaul of the structure of the site. Still gonna look the same but hopefully, it'll work much better.
