Marilyn Katzmark is a retired radiologic technologist, but she has played the violin much of her life. She has played in various groups, most notably Akron Pops, Swingin’ Along, and New Horizons in which she is the Principle 1st Violinist.
In recent years she started playing the viola, and now she is learning to play the cello. Once retired, she was able to expand her knowledge of music by attending the University of Akron, taking courses in music theory, history, and literature.
Marilyn has always enjoyed working with children. In the past she has been a Sunday school teacher and youth group leader at her church in Firestone Park. Currently she takes part in Akron Reads, helping students at the Voris Community Learning Center. Once she retired, she thought it would be the perfect time to share her passion for music by teaching violin and viola. Thankfully she has been able to do just that through Taylor Band.
Marilyn likes to think she is a good example of music being a lifelong process. There is always something to learn or improve on. And best of all, music is something to be enjoyed for a lifetime!
