The team & I have been working hard, 2 trips with driving a U-Haul truck back from my large storage unit to the store. There are many items and we don't have everything out.
We MAY be able to open on Saturday, 9/2/23 to start the sale.

NEW HOURS FOR CYNDI’S. First I am very humbled by everyone’s kind comments, private messages, and phone calls that I have received since I told everyone that we were closing. I have even had many requests from other cities and towns around Aiken, to move the store to their area. I have been out of town since I posted the closing knowing that I would be too tearful to see everyone. Thank You, to everyone who has come into the store if you bought something or not, you made a difference to me.

I would like to clear something up, I am not closing because my rent went up. The Landlord would not renew my lease after I had been in business for over 10 years.

The store will be open tomorrow, Friday 8/25/23from 10am - 5pm if we still have candy. We will also open on Saturday if we are not sold out.
Then we will be closed until Thursday 8/31/23 opening at 10am. At this time it will be CASH ONLY sales, everything will be on sale in the store from equipment, jars, and store displays. Yes, I do have empty Christmas Tins from last year. Also, I have a very large storage unit with decorations for every season that can be used in your store or home. All items will be priced fairly. This sale will continue through the weekend or longer if needed.

I am also seeing that the Aiken Standard has put online that I may find another site. I do need a break from all of this for a moment, I will put serious thought and planning into it during the holidays. I’m going to let God show me the way.

Cyndi's Sweet Shoppe lease ends on 10/31/23. We will be closing in late September. Before that, I will also bring in from my storage unit everything that I have had in my windows over the years to sell on a cash-only base. I have every season and more. Many store items fixtures will also be for sale.

What Is Happening At Cyndi's?

Ten years ago Cyndi’s Sweet Shoppe opened our door on Laurens St downtown, Aiken, S.C. What started out as Dick’s idea for a nostalgic candy store, soon also became mine. I found the space that we are located in not knowing that I was going to be surrounded by other wonderful shops.

Many of you know the name comes from “smooshing” my proper name Cynthia & my husband's name Dick to become Cyndi’s. Sadly two years ago Dick had a stroke and he had to step away from the store.

With great sadness Cyndi’s is CLOSING, it is true. After 10 years of being in business, our landlord, the former owner of the "famous" Hotel Aiken informed us that he would not renew our lease. While I am not sure what is planned for this space (I do have an idea), maybe a restaurant the landlord does tell me that other people would like to occupy my space.

I have looked into other spaces to rent downtown but, the prices are crazy and not on Laurens St. New owners are buying some of the buildings which have triple net leases. There is a location not on Laurens, a little smaller than mine was $4,400 per month. Small businesses, at least a candy store can not afford that.

I do question what our Downtown will look like? I’m disappointed that my City didn’t reach out to ask, “How can we help?” I don’t mean money, even if it was only moral support, helping to see if they knew of anywhere I could go. I will say that our Mayor Rick Osbon did reach out when he found out what the real story was. He also apologized for not coming to me sooner. To me that represents an honorable person.

We came from Syracuse, NY to Aiken, SC, and made a dream (Cyndi’s) into a wonderful story for Aiken and tourists to enjoy themselves. I have many wonderful memories from the time we opened the store to now as we end. The people I have met, that I now call friends, the small children that are in college or finished, my regulars, the people that keep coming back year after year, and so many more. Someone may have only come only one time but, put a smile on my face and in my heart.

Then there is my team, I have had many wonderful people working with me over the years. I always say I am going to write a book about them, and they tell me I will be mentioned many times. It would be a comedy, the stories that we can all tell, they were all AWESOME people and many still keep in touch with me.

In the end though Debi, Nancy, & Jordan have been such a great and supportive help to me. Not one of them would leave me until I lock the door for the final time.

Thank you to everyone who walked through our doors. You did make a difference to us.
