The Bland-Allison Act, enacted in 1878, aimed to address currency and economic concerns. It required the U.S. Treasury to purchase silver and mint it into silver dollars. This led to the creation of the first Morgan Silver Dollars. The act was influenced by the "free silver" movement and the ongoing debate over the monetary standard in the late 19th century. It was a compromise between those who supported the gold standard and those advocating for bimetallic coinage.

The Morgan dollar is a special United States coin that was made from 1878 to 1904, then again in 1921, and now in 2021 for collectors. It was the first silver dollar made after the Coinage Act of 1873, which stopped making silver coins freely.
