"For 11 years, Wrexham Lager wasn't being brewed. It didn't exist at all. But Carlsberg sold the rights to the name for £1 to the then-MP of Wrexham, Martin Jones," Gaffey explained. The company started up again with six conditioning tanks, each capable of storing around 17,500 pints, in 2011, which quickly proved to be insufficient. Today, thanks to the series and team's popularity, the business is up to 16 tanks, with planning consent for another 30.

Indeed, strolling through the city centre's 16th-Century pubs and Tudor-style buildings, it seems everything is going Wrexham's way these days. "The town itself, six or seven years ago, went through quite a dark period," said Nick Gaffey, office administrator at Wrexham Lager. "But the last couple of years, there's more of a drive in believing the town will be something better, and that's reflected by the attitude of the people."

"Sasso means 'stone' in Italian," said Foschino. "But in Matera, sasso means a district with buildings and caves." When the word 'cave' is used in Matera, locals always mean man-made caves, not natural caves. "This is the source of a lot of misunderstandings."

Three of the perpetrators have been arrested by the Japanese police, hopefully putting a stop to the sushi-destroying shenanigans, but it still shocked a nation that's known for its rules, regulations, cleanliness and etiquette, especially with food. Additionally, sushi restaurants in Japan have begun to disable their conveyor belts or install sensors and cameras to catch the "sushi terrorists" red-handed (or red-tongued as it were), possibly putting an end to one of the world's great sushi eating experiences.

All three have chosen a similar strategy to mitigate their misfortunes: the kiss of art. Two now have big statement galleries as engines of regeneration, and the third has the biggest collection of open-air art in the country, turning the resort into a kind of cultural treasure hunt. And this latter destination – Folkestone – has just been described as "a funky example of the power of well-aimed regeneration" and "a younger, fresher and cheaper version of Brighton" in the Sunday Times guide to Best Places to Live.
