“Ayayoru,” in the Makua language, means “Us for Us” and expresses an idea of community collaboration and interdependence. Ayayoru Carvings and Tours was founded in December 2013, by Moris Damian in collaboration with non-profit workers in Mtwara, Tanzania. Ayayoru is a locally owned and operated tourism business and collaborative, started by Moris as an effort to get Mtwara locals involved in the tourism sector and to connect local carvers and artists to a larger market.
