The story of Artist’s World is a tapestry woven from color, family, and a deep-seated love for the canvas. It began not as a business venture, but as a quiet spark in the heart of Mrs. Mary Attong, whose simple hobby blossomed into a lifelong devotion to the fine arts.
In those early days, Mrs. Mary and her husband, Mr. Arthur Attong, channeled that passion into a modest storefront on Carib Street, San Fernando. It was a place born of shared dreams, eventually outgrowing its original home. Drawn by the blossoming energy of Carlton Centre, the couple relocated their shop, anchoring themselves in the heart of the community. For years, they were the silent partners to every local masterpiece, providing the brushes, pigments, and stationery that fueled the creativity of San Fernando and its environs.
When the seasons changed - bringing the passing of Mr. Attong and the eventual retirement of Mrs. Mary, the shop’s story did not end. Their son, Mr. Ian Attong, stepped into the role he seemed destined for. An avid painter himself, Ian didn't just manage a "mom and pop" shop; he preserved a sanctuary for artists. He understood the weight of a brush and the texture of the canvas as intimately as his parents had.
As of April 30, 2026, a significant chapter in Trinidad’s artistic history has reached its beautiful conclusion. After decades of serving as a cornerstone tenant, Ian Attong has decided to set aside the ledger and pick up the palette full-time.
J.T. Allum Group and the Carlton Centre community bid a fond, bittersweet farewell to the Attong family. While the storefront may change, the legacy of the family that coloured San Fernando for generations remains etched in every painting created with their supplies. We wish Mr. Ian a retirement filled with the same vibrant inspiration his family gave to so many others.
