A sad day it was when Cathy came in drunk,
The air saturated with the whiskey that surfed her breath.
Her brown suede bucket hat balancing nearly,
I could see the falsehood dwelling behind her eyes.
I could hear her true voice, though barricaded by obscenities.
A usual episode, this one, but today,
Today would be different.
Today she has lost, felt loss and lusted over nostalgia.
Tearing down the sign helped but didn't,
The bulldozer scuffs like a threatened hog.
Cathy's home no more than a concrete fog.
