Laos has officially opened Bokeo International Airport in Ton Pheung district, Bokeo province, marking a major new gateway for the Golden Triangle. The project, worth more than 6 billion baht, is the country’s first airport developed under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model.
Backed by a long-term concession linked to the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, the airport is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and support tourism, trade and investment across the Mekong subregion. Lao officials say it fits with the country’s five-year national development strategy and its plan to expand air passenger and cargo transport.
The airport currently serves the Bokeo-Vientiane route through Lao Airlines, with plans to add more domestic flights and future international links to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong and China.
