Pilea Peperomioides (Chinese Money Plant)
Pilea peperomioides, also known as Chinese money plant, pancake plant, friendship plant, lefse plant, missionary plant or ufo plant…native to Yunnan Province in southern China.
The story of Pilea peperomioides has it that a Norwegian missionary Agnar Espegren brought it back to Norway from China in 1946. He then shared the basal shoots with his friends and since he travelled often, the plant was effectively distributed around Norway. Pilea peperomioides is now a widespread window sill plant known as ‘Missionary plant’ in Norway.
Pilea is an easy to care for plant that likes heaps of light. You can easily propagate it fro the readily available basal shoots or leaf cuttings.
