Bučno olje.
Slovencem poznano, turistom pa precej manj.
The term "bučno olje or pumpkin oil" refers to the oil obtained from pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita pepo) and has an interesting history in terms of both naming and usage.
"Bučno" comes from the noun "buča" which is of Proto-Slavic origin. The Slavic word buča is thought to come from Proto-Slavic "bǫča" which meant something puffy or round. It is also possible that the word has an onomatopoeic origin (imitation of sounds or shapes). "Olje or Oil" comes from the Proto-Slavic word olьje which has cognates in other Slavic languages and is related to the Indo-European root el- or ol-, meaning "oily", "lubricant" or "liquid fat".
Pumpkin oil as a culinary and medicinal product began to be widely used in the 18th century, especially in today's Štajerska (Austria and Slovenia). In Štajerska and parts of Prekmurje, the production of pumpkin oil has become part of the agricultural tradition and culinary heritage as "štajersko prekmursko" pumpkin oil now has a protected geographical indication in the EU. Traditional production involves roasting the seeds as which gives the oil its characteristic dark green color and nutty flavor.
