Internships are a big part of the student experience! ✨ Our student, Clarissa Junia Ramli, is currently interning at GLOO PR, a Public Relations Agency specialising in creating news and stories for tech, gaming, and corporate clients. Read on as she shares more on her internship!

“When I was offered a position at GLOO PR, I was really excited about it as the position allows me to be creative in my writing. As a PR Intern, I do research on the clients’ new products and then write media invites, media pitch notes and press releases. In addition, I go online to monitor the media and produce daily coverage reports for the clients I’m assigned to. When we have press conferences, I help in arranging the media attendance and also submit flash/round-up reports.

We also constantly call and email the media, convincing them to come over for events, and then build relationships with them there (especially if you’re new to the industry). I see this as an opportunity to really work on my communication skills and finding new ways to connect with people.

Personally, I feel that the biggest reward of working in PR is seeing the story you built for your clients gaining strong media interest and then the day after a product launch, you see it spreading on the Internet and report the good news to the client!”

The Head of Public Relations at JCU Singapore's Volunteer Club, Clarissa Junia Ramli shares her kayaking experience at Marina Bay!

"I participated in one session of the ‘Kayak N Klean’ event along with 2 other friends, and we went to the venue at Marina Bay together. We sat through a half-hour briefing by the kayak instructor on the effects of litter on the environment and the ecosystem. She then informed us of the rules we should follow, what litter to pick up and what not to, how to get on the kayak and paddle properly, and so on. With a partner, we were asked to carry the double-seater kayaks to the pier, and when we got on the kayak, we were surprised by how stable it was. The instructor then told us to follow her, and while screaming ‘Left Right Left Right’ with my friend, we explored the waterways looking for litter.

One thing that I still cannot forget to this day is accidentally touching snail eggs which somehow got attached to our kayak. After an hour, we went back to the pier to wash our kayaks and weighed the litter we had collected. Personally, despite the extremely hot weather, I really enjoyed it since I got to bond with my friends, meet new people, and support coastal clean-up.

I hope you guys will get the chance to participate in the next ‘Kayak
N Klean’ session, and please look forward to more of JCU Volunteer
Club’s activities."
