See what I have prepared for Clay Fest, happening in a few days.

Frankly, didn't know if I should have a theme to go with. Slowly and surely, I find myself expanding what I had been interested in all along - texture. Creating texture with tools, things laying around at home, with new techniques learned from Candone Wharton, and a little play rolling coils.

Quite nervous to have my works showcased for the first time with my own teacher, artists I admire and clay makers from all around Singapore and beyond. Inside me, there're 434746758647 butterflies knocking into each other🧚🐝🪱🐛🫎🐥🦋🐞🐜 Maybe that's not nervousness, it's excitement?? Coz they're somewhat similar, just a tiny switch then it's excitement. Sorry, a bit of nonsense here.

Hellooo!!

I'm ready to play with you all. If you want to know how I made those marbled pieces, come join me in this one. Looking for only 4 pax in this first round of workshop.

In these 2 hours, we will make 1 plate + 1 smaller item of your choice.
You will be making your very own marbling print as unique as your thumbprint. I have a few colors that we can choose from: green, yellow, orange, pink, and blue.

I will glaze the items for you in transparent glaze, so that the marbling look will come through.

Item size:
Plate (less than 20cm diameter)
small item (less than 10cm diameter)
Collection of item will be delivered to you/ upon self-collection.

We will be having this workshop at studio, surrounded by beautiful flowers.

I hope my plates are cooling down calmly in the kiln. Since the last painted plate of the bikini girl, it's spurred my interest in the direction of little human doing things. So I painted a few more, of girls, of couple, of active living. Well, let's hope these human sit tight and be patient as they ride through the waves of heat and glide out in a breeze.

Let me continue with the plates of Breathe and Flow

In the past quarter, the weekends at Hort Park Gardeners' Day Out had me exposed to more varieties of plants. One that has left a great impression in my mind was the type of plants with rounded leaves, plus my recent adoration for Mr Davy Young's leaf ceramics, I had to do something with this plant shape that I adore.

That explains this series of nearly circular plates inspired by Nasturtium leaves. Its veins radiate from the central petiole. Each plate was created in similar fashion. I first had the shape of the slab cut out, continued with carving a few 'veins' from the center of the piece, and engraved the graphics directly onto the slab. I had some ideas roughly in mind before starting the work. Most parts were spontaneous engravings without pencil sketches.

I'm glad I had the time to experiment with new techniques, explore new styles and learn from this process. Only when we have courage to face the unknowns and take risk, we open ourselves to opportunity of growth.

Pop-up scene in Singapore gets even more vibrant towards the end of the year. I started hearing people preparing for Christmas gifts. If you're preparing earlier, do consider supporting locally made products or products made for good cause like the Sustainable Christmas Market. A part of the proceeds goes directly to Red Cross.
(highlighted in 3rd pic, search it up if you want to know more)

As we march towards the end of the year, remember to count all the blessings we have received, learn from mistakes we've made, and be grateful for both loss and gain. See you around in any of these markets I'll be at.

Busy September ahead!

I haven't made something specifically for any festival, and this way of working will likely continue. At this point of time, what I've sold goes back to support my making. A year has passed since the start of this journey, I've adapted to a new flow of life, flow of creating and the back and forth to studio. I have also been expanding on product variety, from making mainly plates and trinket dishes to having mugs now. Do I want to continue that? Making based on what people want, or making because I love the process?

I pondered for a moment. I chose the latter.
