Spin started in Shanghai in 2004, the brainchild of a mathematics professor who had set out to restore the glory of the neglected Chinese ceramics industry. Spin’s art director, New York-based Hong Konger Gary Wang, oversees a team of artists who create clever yet functional contemporary pieces. Spin turns household items into conversation pieces with their elegant lines and clever functionality.

Spin ceramics are handmade in Jingdezhen, in the northeastern part of the Jiangxi Province of China. Jingdezhen is known as the “Porcelain Capital” of the world because it has been producing quality pottery for 1700 years. Jingdezhen’s porcelain is known internationally for being "as thin as paper, as white as jade, as bright as a mirror, and as sound as a bell". Spin first opened its doors in Holland Village, Singapore in December 2010.
