The Forgotten One 11.

Why It Is Called "The Forgotten One"

- Overshadowed by the legendary rear-wheel-drive AE86 lineage.
- Shift to front-wheel-drive layout alienated purists looking for drift platforms.
- Declining market demand for small, lightweight 2-door coupes in the late 1990s led to its quiet discontinuation.
-Never officially sold in major western markets like the US.

McLaren-Lambo

The MP4/8B Lamborghini V12-engined test car.. Fun fact.

Did you know that when McLaren were in search of a works engine partner in 1993 as an alternative to the Ford 'customer' deal that put them 2nd best to Benetton who had the better, more powerful 'works' engine, they signed a preliminary agreement with Chrysler (owner of Lamborghini Engineering) that meant they were committed to the relationship if during testing the V12 MP4/8B, the lap time proved to be more than 1.5 seconds a lap faster around Estoril than the Ford powered MP4/8..

The car proved very good immediately the hands of Ayrton who lapped faster in the 8B than he had qualified the previous weekend for the Portuguese Grand Prix!

There then followed a frantic phone call from Dave Ryan, running the test, back to team boss Martin Whitmarsh back in Woking stating Ayrton was going quicker and quicker and that McLaren was in danger of having to commit to a Chrysler contract for 1994!.. Martin, who still wanted to keep future engine partner options open, told Dave to fill the car's fuel tank to the brim over the lunch break when nobody from Chrysler was watching!! It worked and Ayrton's times went back up again, with no danger of it beating the Ford-engined lap time!
