I am happy to announce that after being out of production for a long time, the original Mura Miniature houses will return. 2d6 wargaming will produce and sell the original Mura Miniatures range, and the first ones are now available for pre-order:

While I enjoy designing the houses, I ended up in a position where I had neither the space, equipment or time to sell the miniatures myself. I am very happy to see this solution where they will again be available for 6mm wargamers.

Here's a great resource for when you're sitting down to paint your ranged infantry, no matter the scale. I find that seeing reenactors helps a lot, not just in deciding what colours various pieces should be, but also how to get good and realistic postures if you're using multi-part miniatures or do conversions. And what better place to learn about muskets than at Nagashino?

16th century Asian ships are very impressive and spectacular, yet there's a surprising lack of models for them. After experimenting with some different sizes, it turned out that 6mm (1:285) scale is actually a pretty good scale for them as well! So I made a "proof of concept" ship - a medium sized sekibune style ship that would have been roughy 20 meters (65 feet) long - to see if it was possible to make and cast in resin.

Well, I just pulled the first ship out of the mold, and what do you think? It's not perfect, but it makes me want to build a small fleet at least! There are also holes in the deck on top, for adding banner poles.

I tried a new resin this weekend, from the UK. Turned out that I like it more than the old resin, and the grey tint makes it easier both to pour into the molds and to clean up bubbles and other annoyanced afterwards. Definitely worth buying it from abroad!

Operation: Rebasing is heating up. I painted up some new infantry, and together with more rebasing I could expand the army with 10 new bases. That means we're halfways to a FoG:R army by now. We started looking at Field of Glory:Renaissance at the local club. It would be a nice excuse to clean up my 28mm samurai. But will I dare rebase them all as well?
Here's a first test, six ashigaru waiting to get their fresh new base finished after losing their individual bases. How do you base your armies, and would you ever be prepared to rebase them?

Here are some pics of my test casting of the first bits of tatami mats in resin. I think it might be crazy enough to work! I'll see if I can get the masters to be a little bit more even, but to me it looks better than my attempts to do something similar with foamboard.

What do you think? The tatami is done in 1/56 scale from the Kyoto standard, which is just under two meter long and one meter wide.

I did some more water colour painting tonight, this time a townhouse from outside Osaka. I'll use the floor plan to give some ideas about making front and back entrances, and some basics about sliding doors, alcoves and tatami floors.

Not completely coincidentially, also pictured is a first attempt to solve one of my bigger headaches: tatami floors for 28mm. Is is possible to make resin tatami pieces? Let's find out!
