Advice to New Interpreters in Africa📍

Many times, friends ask me:
“Since I speak two languages, can you refer me to a recruiter so I can start interpreting?”

My answer is always honest.
Being bilingual is a good foundation, but it is not enough. Interpretation is a profession that requires ethics, preparation, and continuous learning.

I always encourage them to first learn the basics, find ways to practice, and even volunteer to gain experience.

Africa needs strong and well-prepared language professionals because the work we do matters more than many people realize.

✨ 2025 — What a Year ✨

As the year comes to an end, I’m taking a moment to pause and reflect on a season filled with service, growth, meaningful connections, and purpose.
In 2025, I had the opportunity to volunteer with and .world , using language as a tool to support people who truly needed it.

I also facilitated two Remote Simultaneous Interpretation sessions, one focused on Human Rights and another on Personal Development. These experiences allowed me to engage with passionate learners and individuals committed to making a difference.

Professionally, it was a demanding but rewarding year. I spent long hours taking calls across diverse fields — medical, business, education, emergency, legal, and social services. Each interaction strengthened not only my skills, but also my empathy and sense of responsibility as an interpreter.

One of the standout moments of the year was attending the 's business heroes Summit & Grand Finale. Connecting with inspiring entrepreneurs and leaders from across the continent was truly energizing. I was especially honored to witness Orembe, Founder of NovFeed, win the 2025 ABH Grand Prize. Her work in sustainable biotech solutions is a powerful example of innovation with impact.

I’m deeply grateful for the people I met, the opportunities I was given, and the growth — both personal and professional — that came with them.

Feeling thankful, grounded, and ready for an even more impactful 2026 🚀

December last year vs December 2025.
Growth doesn’t happen overnight—it happens with consistency.
As an interpreter, sharpening my language skills is part of the job.
Keep learning. Keep improving.
