The Promotional Games were made "isolympic", that is, following exactly the same rules as the Olympic ones[2]. The program of the games included athletic, equestrian and musical competitions, as well as rowing competitions rare for such events, which emphasized the connection of the holiday with the naval victory. The winners were awarded wreaths of reed, a plant dedicated to Poseidon. Athletic competitions were held in three age categories - boys, youths (Greek αγένειοι lit. "beardless") and men.
