OUR LADY IN WOOD — DEVOTION AND PRESENCE ✨🙏

Some images do not need ostentation to move us. This 19th-century wooden Our Lady commands attention through the serenity of her gesture, the sweetness of her face, and that silent dignity that only truly devotional sculptures possess. Her gaze is inward, the hand resting upon her chest seems to hold a private prayer, and the whole figure conveys peace, humility and spiritual presence.

What captivates me most is the nobility of the wood and the way the sculpture has been carved with a deeply human sensibility. The folds of the mantle, the restrained movement of the posture and the gentle expression reveal a piece made to inspire contemplation. It is not merely a religious image — it is a testimony of faith, inwardness and 19th-century popular sensitivity, where matter gains soul through the sculptor’s hand.

With 117 cm in height, it is a strikingly scaled piece, ideal for an interior with character, where it can be appreciated not only as a devotional object, but also as a sculpture of great aesthetic and historical strength. A presence that elevates the space and fills it with memory. 🤍

HERMINO DAS — THE BOY LYING IN TIME 📱🛋️

Some pieces make us smile first… and think immediately afterwards. This sculpture by Hermino Das has that rare strength: it appears simple, almost everyday, yet it holds a deeply contemporary reading of our time, childhood, rest, and that silent intimacy between the body and the small object that captures the gaze.

The boy is lying down, absorbed in his own world, with a mobile phone in his hands and his head resting on an intense red cushion. The relaxed posture, crossed legs, green outfit and vivid blue shoes give the piece an almost pop freshness, while the expressive modelling of the face and body preserves a human, tender and very immediate dimension. It is a sculpture that speaks of contemporary life without needing grand gestures — just that suspended, almost domestic, almost universal moment.

I really love this mixture of innocence, irony and emotion. The figure seems to be there with us, lost in his small screen, but at the same time becomes a poetic comment on modern solitude, comfort, childhood and the way we inhabit time today. It is a fun, moving, colourful piece full of personality — one of those works that enters a home and immediately starts a conversation. ✨

19TH-CENTURY ANGEL — GRACE SUSPENDED IN TIME 👼✨
Some pieces carry the lightness of heaven and the tenderness of memory. This 19th-century angel, with its sweet expression and open gesture, seems to hover between the sacred and the affectionate, as if it still held the silent mission of protecting, welcoming and illuminating the space it inhabits. The movement of the arms, the delicate face and the wavy hair give it a living, almost moving presence.
I love this figure for its humanity. It is not merely a devotional image — it is a small messenger of charm, with serene beauty and a patina that time has made even more poetic. The marks of age, the worn surface and the softened polychromy tell us a long, intimate and truthful story, the kind only objects with soul know how to tell.
By its formal language, it may be considered presumably European, 19th century, perhaps from a popular devotional tradition, where the sweetness of childhood meets celestial symbolism. It is precisely this balance between innocence, faith and ancient beauty that makes this piece so captivating. 🤍

MADONNA AND CHILD — TENDERNESS AND DEVOTION ✨❤️

Some paintings speak to us softly, yet continue to echo within us. This oil on canvas, datable to the 18th/19th century, is one of those works of rare sweetness and presence, where spirituality meets a deeply human emotion. The serene and introspective female figure embraces the Child in a protective and delicate gesture, creating a moving scene of intimacy, almost suspended in time.
I am particularly touched by the softness of the face, the melancholic and tender gaze, and the way the Child’s body rests with such natural abandonment, as if the whole composition were breathing silence, love and contemplation. The large, theatrical red drapery gives the scene a very particular sense of nobility, while the dark, warm tones reinforce this devotional, ancient and enveloping atmosphere. There is an austere beauty here, but one that is deeply moving.
It is a piece with soul — one that does not merely decorate, but transforms a space and gives it meaning. I see in it the charm of old devotional paintings, created to accompany contemplation, faith and memory. An elegant, intense work full of feeling, perfect for those seeking sacred art with truth, character and presence.

SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST AND SAINT MARK — TWO GUARDIANS OF WOOD AND GOLD ✨📜

Some images are not merely sculptures: they are presences. This beautiful pair of polychrome wooden sculptures, painted in white and gold, carries the serene and deeply human spirituality of 18th-century European sacred art.
Representing Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Mark, both of Central European origin, these figures reveal a late Baroque devotional and expressive language, where gesture, gaze and gilding are not merely decorative — they serve faith, narrative and emotion. The white softens the forms, almost like an ancient light resting upon the wood; the gold, applied to the details of the garments, elevates the pieces and recalls the sacred dimension of these representations.
Saint John the Evangelist appears with a contemplative delicacy — youthful, introspective, linked to the Word and to spiritual vision. Saint Mark, with a firmer and more solemn presence, carries the symbolic strength of the evangelist, guardian of message and tradition. I especially love this combination of sculptural innocence, authentic wear and liturgical beauty — small losses, slight wear to the paint and gilding, natural signs of a long, devout and truthful life.
Two sculptures with soul, silence and history. Pieces that bring to any space not only antiquity, but also contemplation, character and a rare sacred poetry. 🕊️

The eagle, proud and watchful, dominates the composition as an emblem of power, authority and elevation. Its language recalls the Empire / neoclassical taste, closely linked to the 19th-century European world, where imperial symbols, scrolls, gilding and symmetry were used to create objects of distinction and ceremony.
I particularly love the contrast between the old gilding, already marked by the patina of time, and the darker accents that give depth to the frame. The leaves, scrolls and small central circular mirror make this piece far more than a mirror: it is an object of presence, almost heraldic, with character, nobility and an ancient light impossible to imitate. 🤎

PORTUGUESE OCTAGONAL PLATTER — A GARDEN ON FAIENCE 🌿🌺

Some pieces seem to bring the old table into the home, with the freshness of a hand-painted garden. This Portuguese octagonal faience platter, datable to the 19th century / early 20th century, has that popular and luminous grace that I love so much: a simple, joyful piece, full of colour and memory.

Its octagonal shape gives it presence and balance, while the floral decoration, in vivid greens, blue and wine-red tones, creates a delightful vegetal border, almost like a country garland. At the centre, the floral bouquet, painted with spontaneity and delicacy, seems to grow from the ceramic itself, with loose leaves, open flowers and small scrolls that give it movement and freshness.

I particularly love the patina of the glaze, the old craquelure, the small marks along the rim and that true imperfection which confirms the age and life of the piece. It is a platter with a Portuguese soul, made to serve, decorate and tell stories — one of those pieces that looks wonderful on a wall, on a laid table or within a composition of antique faience. A sweet, decorative piece full of charm. ✨

Portuguese octagonal faience platter, 19th century / early 20th century, polychrome floral decoration, with natural signs of use, craquelure and small marks of time.
