As we celebrate the spirit of Independence, we request the Government to extend retail operating hours until 12 midnight from August 13 to 31.

This will provide consumers with greater convenience, support retailers and businesses, boost economic activity, and allow everyone to celebrate the Independence season with greater enthusiasm.

Let’s support Pakistan’s retail industry and keep the economy moving!

The Chainstore Association of Pakistan (CAP) delegation, led by Patron-in-Chief Rana Tariq Mehboob and Secretary General Malik Asim Dogar, held important meetings at the Prime Minister's House, Islamabad, with Mr. Shabbir Ahmed Usmani, Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, and Brig. (R) Muzaffar Ali Ranjha, Chairman of the Prime Minister's Inspection Commission (PMIC).

During the meetings, Patron-in-Chief CAP Rana Tariq Mehboob highlighted key challenges facing Pakistan's organized retail sector, including the impact of early retail market closure timings, urban development initiatives, and the growing regulatory burden on Tier-1 organized retailers.

The CAP delegation emphasized that policy decisions should reflect the realities of the Pakistani market and recognize the vital role organized retail plays in creating employment, increasing tax compliance, promoting digital payments, attracting investment, and strengthening the documented economy.

The delegation urged the government to adopt evidence-based and business-friendly policies that support sustainable growth while contributing to Pakistan's broader economic objectives.

The government officials appreciated the constructive dialogue and assured the delegation that these important matters would be presented before Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for consideration.

Compliance should be rewarded, not penalized.

Pakistan's organized retail sector supports documentation, pays taxes, creates jobs, and invests in the country's future. But rising taxes, overlapping regulations, and increasing compliance costs are making growth harder.

We are not anti-tax—we simply ask for a fair, transparent, and level playing field that encourages investment, formalization, and economic growth.

A stronger organized retail sector means a stronger Pakistan.

When retail suffers, the entire economy feels the impact.

Retail is more than just shopping—it is the engine that drives manufacturing, logistics, wholesalers, suppliers, employment, and thousands of local businesses across Pakistan.

When retailers struggle under rising costs, excessive taxation, and increasing compliance burdens, the ripple effects extend far beyond store shelves. Production slows, supply chains weaken, jobs are lost, investments decline, and economic growth suffers.

A strong retail sector means a stronger Pakistan. It's time to recognize retail as a key driver of economic prosperity and implement policies that enable businesses to grow, create jobs, and contribute to sustainable national development.
