Not a day goes by where you don’t hear of the news of a crime against women in our society. In modern times like this, sadly sexual assault, r**e and even honor killings are a common occurrence in some areas of South Asia.
We hear stories of women who stay in abusive relationships because of the fear of society. We hear about families, who kill their daughters in the name of honor to keep up with the reputation of their family. Crimes like child marriages, child abuse, r**e, dowry deaths, trafficking and many more are rampant in some societies.
With the recent news of R**e in Pakistan, the topic of safety has risen among us women. Here are a few things we have put together to help you stay safe during your travels:
-Take advantage of Social media, if anyone harasses you or harasses someone else to take a picture or video it.
-Zero tolerance for any sexual harassment.
-Don’t take eve teasing lightly, Respond with a stern voice, pepper spray or a punch if you have to.
-Take a self defense class learn to confidently stop predators in their tracks. You have a right to fight, it is important to understand that you CAN and SHOULD defend yourself physically.
-Keep Eyes and Ears Open and your Hands Free. That way you are ready to use your hands to punch or grab your pepper spray.
-Display confidence, Walk with purpose, scan the area around you and make casual eye contact with others to display confidence.
-Never be quiet about sexual assault, always raise your voice against these crimes so you and other women can stay safe.
-Educate you son\brother\husband, They must consider women as equals so they don’t even think of harming them.
