She Wears Red Feathers

She Wears Red Feathers http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SheWearsRedFeathers stocked now. I'm a mum of two boys, with a day job, who loves to create and sew.

My current passion is bags of all kinds. I like to choose fabrics that I love - quirky and cute, occasionally retro, usually bright and colourful. I cannot commit to one style as I love so many - rockabilly, retro, shabby, funky - just all sorts. Therefore, I just make what I like and hope someone out there likes it too! The page will be uploaded with current works and musings, and the s

hop will (hopefully) contain a selection of items for purchase. I also have a website www.shewearsredfeathers.co.uk

So this morning, in the car on the way to town to get last minute presents for his friends party tonight, child #2 announces it's a themed party. And do I have any celestial/ galaxy type fabric that I can make something with?

We got home at 11. I then had to take him to his other friends house at noon. ( An hour and a half round trip) Instead of loitering in the Stamford region as originally planned, I had to dash back home to make him this tie, because it was the quickest thing I could think of. Then I had to go pick him up again.

Shortly after returning home, I needed to take him to his party wearing his new tie. And then I had to return to the party as he left their gifts in the car. He was overall moderately grateful.

Ah. Kids 😂

Bridgerton Ball outfit. I saw this monsoon dress on Vinted and figured I could make it more regency by adding a bolero, so I ended up buying two of the same dresses, one to wear ( although I cut a large amount off the bottom because I'm not 6ft tall!)
The other one I cut up and made a matching bolero and bag.

Made a . Not the first - I know I've made one before - but it was so many years ago I don't recall what it looked like 😂

This is to go with my Bridgerton outfit on Saturday, so I used scraps from a dress that I'd already cut up to make a bolero.
What is not much fun? Sewing satin fabric that has a beaded chiffon overlay. Slippery overkill. 😊 It doesn't look like much in the photo - it's a very muted sage chiffon on top of champagne satin.

The flap is a slightly different shape from the Glenda simply because I only had a bit of bodice to work with. It has a strap and also a wristlet.

I'll show you the full outfit later!

Another - this time it's a wristlet that I made into a cross body

I have to say it doesn't really lend itself to this modification because of the location of the zip, but I wanted to make it work so I've added security with a little extendable clip so the zip doesn't slide down and I don't lose the contents!

I also made the small pocket on the front zipped so nothing will fall out of that either!

Been making some sample pouches ( because I can't find my others - doh!)

These are a useful little set of pouches. The wristlet in the bigger size and the pouch in the smaller size. There are card slots and an inner zipped pocket in the wristlet. I have chosen not to add card slots to the pouch but you can if you want to!

Who dis?! A familiar face was attending the Pepin tote evening course for the last couple of weeks. Yep it's Julie, owner of . Well if you own a fabric store and run workshops why wouldn't you join in?
Julie made a beautiful Pepin in a navy leatherette.

I normally advise people do
NOT bring vinyl/faux leathers to a course - because it's too unpredictable - we never know if a machine is going to be able to handle it and I don't want disappointed customers - but Julie knows what she's doing.

We also had a beautiful waxed canvas and floral tote by Jan, and a denim tote from Jackie which hopefully I will get a photo of soon!

Fixing boots.
So this is what I did today. I got these 70s style beauts off Vinted.
The right boot has been cut ( it's smaller than the left one on the calf 🤷 so I understand why they did it, but I cannot cope with it as was 😂)

The plan was to sew some strips of elastic together and insert them into the slit, then sew the elastic in with a zigzag to match the existing stitching.

Unfortunately my machine said 'no way' to that, so I settled on just straight stitches, which I had to finish by hand as I couldn't get the boots that far in the machine.

It's not the neatest but I feel less agitated at the gaping now! And they fit which is the main thing!
