You can easily prepare a warm cup of kapeng barako using your coffee maker. But if you are really not in a hurry, you can try preparing your kapeng barako using the traditional method of Batanguenos to better enjoy its rich taste.
Directions:
π If you want to prepare 4 cups of kapeng barako, pour 4.5 cups of water in a pot. The extra half cup of water is your allowance for water evaporation during boiling. Adjust amount of water depending on the coffee yield you want.
π Put 2 tablespoons of kapeng barako grounds into the water (you can add more if you wish to have stronger coffee). And allow the water to boil.
π When the water starts boiling, reduce heat, add brown sugar as desired and allow to boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
πSet aside the coffee for around 5 minutes to allow the coffee grounds to settle at the bottom of the pot. You can use a ladle to transfer the coffee to your cup or mug. Make sure that you do not disturb the coffee grounds at the bottom.
Kapeng barako is traditionally served black or with evaporated milk. But you can add your favorite cream or milk before serving. Enjoy!
