Our work continues as we welcome another batch of Filipino-Palestinians to La Union for Anges Bed & Books’ “We Are the Olive Trees” retreat series at our new venue partner Urbiz Garden. As part of the program, our guests will do a TATREEZ WORKSHOP to share the art of traditional Palestinian embroidery—a craft deeply rooted in storytelling and resistance.

✨ All workshop participants will showcase their work in a special exhibition in front of Urbiz Garden, weaving together personal narratives and collective memory. ✨

To close the gathering, we invite you to join us for a Solidarity Jam — a night of music, community, and shared histories.

💙a joyful goodbye as we step into a new chapter 🌊

From April to December 2024, our space in San Juan has been a home for shared meals, collective reading, art, surfing together, local music, films, laughter, and stories. Every moment and mistake has shaped us, and as we move forward, we carry these memories with care, letting the lessons from the sea and sun guide the way.

Our time at Habitat 10.5 has come to a close and we are beyond grateful as we begin building our dream home with local musician and architect Alfred Cruz. 🤙🏽Before stepping into what’s ahead, we want to honor the community, creativity, and energy that made this space so special. While our physical space is in transition, our work continues. We’ll be collaborating with kindred spaces, communities, technologists and creators to make portals of healing and creativity more accessible—both in person and online. Stay tuned for ways to stay connected, wherever you are. 🙏🏄🏽‍♀️🌱

🌿 We Are The Olive Trees 🌿

In light of the recent ceasefire, we take a moment to reflect on and honor the resilience of the Filipino-Palestinian community. Sa wakas! While this action is a step in the right direction, it is only the beginning. The work continues, and the fight for justice, healing, and peace remains ongoing.

Last year, during International Human Rights Week, we launched our first retreat for Filipino-Palestinian refugees in the Philippines.

This retreat was never about offering quick fixes for healing. Instead, it was about creating a space for self-discovery and reflection, where we could explore what healing truly means in the face of violence and struggle. Together, we shared stories, listened, and began the work of healing.

Inspired by the olive tree—rooted, enduring, and thriving despite adversity—"We Are The Olive Trees" was a retreat where we paused, rested, reflected, and PLAYED. In this space, dignity and healing were not privileges; they are human rights that belong to everyone.

With the ceasefire now in effect, we are reminded of the importance of compassion, solidarity, and collective peace. The road to true healing is long, but this is a step forward, and we are grateful to have walked this part of the journey with all of you.

To those who joined us, and especially to the Gazans whose quiet strength has taught us that healing begins in simply being together, thank you.

To everyone who supported this retreat and to those who listened to the stories of our Filipino-Palestinian brothers and sisters, we are deeply grateful. You were part of something truly meaningful. And if you missed it, don’t worry—we’re just getting started.

We have gathered our Filipino-Palestinian brothers and sisters here in La Union to offer them love, play, healing, and rest for International Human Rights Week. They will be sharing their artworks and stories from Gaza, while our friends and neighbors will share music, poetry, and food in exchange.
