While traveling through Alaska's Juneau Icefield in 1971, University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were struck with the idea of starting a mountaineering social club. They called their group the Marmot club, and developed samples of vests, sweaters, parkas, and sl leeping bags in their dorm room. Before long, they and a friend, Tom Boyce, decided to take a chance and opened a retail and rental shop in Grand Junction, Colorado under the name Marmot Mountain Works.

Success and recognition arrived early for the company, with even Hollywood catching on. In 1974, Tom Boyce was contacted by a filmmaker to produce over 100 puffy jackets for a shoot of the Clint Eastwood movie, The Eiger Sanction. Marmot came up with the Golden Mantle down jacket, which would help to catapult Marmot into a future of creating many of its own in-house designs and technologies. Some of the more prominent technologies Marmot pioneered in insulation and synthetics include Hollow Core, Thermal R and PreCip.

Another Marmot highlight includes partnering with Joe Tanner of W.L. Gore & Associates, now associated with the popular and prevalent Gore-Tex fabric. Eric made a few sleeping bags with the new fabric, and he and Dave spent a full week in the bags in a commercial frozen meat locker and also tested the bags under fire sprinklers. Highly impressed with the results, Eric and Dave decided to change over the entire Marmot line to Gore-Tex fabrics, making Marmot W.L. Gore & Associates’ first customer in the outdoor industry. Marmot still partners with Gore-Tex as well as other leading brands such as Primaloft and Polartec to create high-end products for a wide range of activities and conditions.

2014 marked Marmot’s 40th anniversary, and the company has come a long way indeed. Beginning as a mountaineering brand, Marmot has expanded into urban exploration, trail running and more. Currently one of the premier outdoor brands, it manufactures technical jackets, pants and extreme weather suits, as well as accessories like tents, backpacks, daypacks and down and synthetic sleeping bags. The Precip rain jacket and the Limelight tents are favorites among outdoor enthusiasts like hikers and backpackers, and of course skiers and snowboarders can’t get enough of the Guide vest.

While growth has unquestionably characterized Marmot’s history, today Marmot is heading in a new direction-ecological sustainability in both its materials and its processes. Recognizing the imperative to protect and preserve the natural environment of which Marmot’s success depends upon, while still producing top-quality products, will help drive the next phase of Marmot’s story into the future.

Cressi is one of the largest manufacturers of water sports equipment in the world serving the scuba dive, snorkel and swim industries. The company's five divisions cover four markets—scuba diving, snorkeling, spearfishing and swimming. Cressi maintains a significant presence in each major economic region around the globe and delivers some 300 distinct products to more than 90 countries. Formerly Cressi-Sub, the Italian company was founded by two brothers, Egidio and Nanni Cressi in 1946 in Genoa, Italy. Still family owned and operated, the company is headed today by Antonio Cressi and its headquarters and manufacturing facilities remain in Genoa.

The Cressi name has been associated with diving, especially spearfishing, since the earliest days of the sport. Egidio and Nanni Cressi began producing masks and spearguns by hand in 1938. Their products were made for the emerging spearfishing community along the northern Mediterranean coast. Since then the company has remained an integral part of the diving community and Cressi-sponsored athletes have won 12 world spearfishing titles. Product innovation for scuba divers have also been significant, including the first open-heel adjustable dive fin and the first diving mask with a dedicated nose pocket. Today Cressi is one of only a few companies in the world that manufactures a full line of equipment and accessories for each of its markets.

The Fieldcraft Knife was designed by The Brothers of Bushcraft, a coalition of men across North America focusing on sharing wilderness living skills of all categories. From tracking to building shelters, the Brothers of Bushcraft make it a point to show the skills to all people, of all ages, from all over.

The Fieldcraft Knife is the culmination of their knowledge, combining experiences from; the broad and humid rain forests, the arid and scorpion-littered deserts, and the frigid northern lands that span the Americas.

The knife is 10 inches long in total, with a blade length of 4.5 inches. This makes a compact, but extremely serviceable knife. The Fieldcraft's blade is 0.20" thick, and made of 154CM stainless steel. The cutting edge is a modified Scandinavian Grind, which is very effective for carving, skinning and other general woods work. With a rockwell hardness of 56-58, the ease of sharpening is astounding. That is if you ever get to sharpen the blade. As the hardness and edge geometry work beautifully together to make a long lasting edge.

The handle is one of the most ergonomic ones on the market, sporting several useful additions. Although knives with a lot of frills often end up lacking, the additional items found on the Fieldcraft knife were selected from experience and critiqued in every step of design, development and production. Being made of Micarta, the handle has a sure grip. The bow drill divot on the handle is frictionless and makes starting those primitive fires almost effortless. The "Thumb Scallops", formed on the hilt of the handle offer more comfort and control when using specialized carving and skinning grips. The pommel of the blade is simply the tang of the knife exposed enough to allow impact from a baton to not effect the handle (though the Micarta is definitely tough enough to take such abuse). On the exposed pommel, you will find a scraper specially designed by one of The Brothers of Bushcraft, for striking Ferro rods in a safe and efficient manner.

The sheath is a strong, durable Kydex, with a steel belt clip. This arrangement allows a safe, secure and comfortable carry on the belt, pack strap, or even around the neck. With a built in Ferro-rod attachment point, the sheath now doubles as a minimalist survival kit. The Fieldcraft Knife has had heavy duty abuse, and testing is done in the wilderness of Canada, where local survival experts Mors Kochanski, Dr. Gino Ferri, and many others have deemed her a "Serviceable Field Knife". These words are exactly what she is meant to be. From carving netting needles and trap triggers, to chopping through branches, the TOPS Knives /Brothers of Bushcraft Fieldcraft Knife will do just about any chore that you can throw at her in a wilderness survival scenario.

Kershaw Shuffle II Multifunction Folding Pocket Knife - for EDC, Camping, Hunting, Hiking, Backpacking, Bushcrafting, Cooking, Emergency, Utility, Tactical, Survival and Outdoor.

AVAILABLE NOW!!!!

A BIGGER, BRAWNIER SHUFFLE IN BASIC BLACK
The new Shuffle II offers a bigger blade and longer handle, but with the same multi-functional flexibility and value pricing that made the Kershaw Shuffle such a hit. But the Shuffle II’s look is very different from the Shuffle. With a tanto blade, strongly textured handle, and BlackWash blade, the Shuffle II has a brawnier look and feel.

The manual opening blade is made of 8Cr13MoV, a quality stainless steel known for its ability to hold an edge, strength, and hardness. The heavily textured handle enhances grip, while still being comfortable to hold and use. A liner lock secures the Shuffle II's blade open in use, but closes easily when its tasks are done. It also features the strong finger contours, handy bottle opener, screwdriver tip, and lanyard attachment that help define the Shuffle.

As a utility knife, a work knife, or just a great multi-function pocketknife—with a new, beefed-up look—the Shuffle II is a perfect choice. It comes complete with a convenient reversible (left/right) pocketclip.
