Legendary anime voice actor Takaya Hashi has passed away from a heart attack at the age of 72.

Hashi was known for many iconic roles, including Kakuzu in Naruto Shippuden, Dogstorm (Inuarashi) in One Piece, Robert Accutrone in bleach , James Black in Detective Conan, Donovan Desmond in Spy × Family, Toki in Fist of the North Star, Pharaoh 90 in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal: Season III, Kyōhei Mizoguchi in Fafner, James Moriarty in Fate/Grand Carnival, Teddy Bomber in Cowboy Bebop, Gerry Strydum in Baki Hanma, and Shirosuke Inudō in Golden Kamuy. He also voiced Severus Snape in the Japanese dub of the Harry Potter films.

The news was announced by his talent agency, Apte Pro, where he also served as president and CEO.

Exactly 25 years ago today (October 20, 1999), the FIRST episode of One Piece was released. A young boy named Monkey D. Luffy decided to become the Pirate King!

Oda-sensei marked the beginning of the One Piece anime with the following comment:

"This is the "Shonen Style: The Way of Anime. We hope to present a great anime to you. The staff and the production team are giving it their all, and all we can do is put our trust in them and look forward to the show’s airing. Please enjoy watching these 30 minutes of “One Piece.”
