These days, 34mm might be considered a “feminine” size when it comes to wristwatches. I disagree, 33-36mm is suitable for a dressier wristwatch. Every wrist is also different. The current 36mm Day Date model is sometimes considered too small by a handful of collectors in this current age. Tony Soprano wore a 36mm Rolex Day Date and he’s as masculine as the one can be. This watch can be worn by a man, a woman, or shared between the two.
The watch offered is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date with a crispy, all-original, 18k yellow gold case with a matching silver with subtle champagne tone colored applied stick marker dial. The bezel is nice and understated being domed instead of the typical eye-catching fluted ones. They made this model in both 18k and 14k gold and I must say that the former is more desirable than the latter. The reference number is 1500/8; the “8” signifying yellow gold.
However, what makes this watch interesting is that it doesn’t come on a Jubilee or Riveted Oyster bracelet, which was the typical specification of these watches. This watch is equipped with an interesting and unusual original 18k Rolex ‘Milanese’ bracelet. Rolex produced a variety of compelling bracelets with exotic finishings from the 1960s all the way through the 70s but has since stopped production. Nowadays, we only have the Oyster, Jubilee, President, and on special models the Pearlmaster.
The watch dates back to circa 1967, bearing a 1.9 million serial number. As with all Rolex models during this period, the watch has an acrylic crystal which tops the beautiful silver-champagne dial.
