HOW TO WATER YOUR SUCCULENTS???
There are two ways to water your succulents:
1. TOP SOIL - where you water on the soil only.. usually done with established plants.
2. BOTTOM WATERING- where you dip an inch of the pot in a container with water and let them drink from the bottom up.. usually done with succulents whose leaves hate getting wet like sempers and sedum dasyphyllum major and minor.
HOW TO WATER NEWLY POTTED PLANTS?
Wait for 4-5 days after potting before you can introduce water. This is to allow your plants to adjust to their climate and new soil. This is also to avoid transplant shock.
After 5 days you may introduce 10-20 ml of water π§ π¦ you may use a syringe for this part. Water only on the soil around the brim of the pot. Do this every 3-4 days depending on the size of the pot..
The water we introduce is not to quench their thirst but to encourage them to grow more roots. They will still be drinking from the leaves at this point. Do this for 2 weeks.
Then increase to 20-30 ml for the next 2 weeks. Observe the leaves if they have stopped drying out and start getting plump. Remember not all plants will react the same way.. some form roots longer.. be patient..
After a month check the roots. If you see a lot of visible roots then you may start watering them with 40 ml always around the brim only.
Always check the soil if its dry before watering. If the soil is still moist skip a day. Do this for another month.
HOW TO WATER ESTABLISHED PLANTS?
This is a lot easier.. i water 40-50 ml around the pot every 4 days.. always check if the soil is moist before watering.
Use a clean and dry bbq stick. Stick it to the soil and remove, if parts of the stick gets moist or soil goes with it soil is still moist. Skip a day or two.
Observe your plant. If it starts getting plump and hard, DONT BE GREEDY and water more.. your plant can only handle so much water. Its first defense is to drop leaves when it gets too full.
Do once every 2 months full watering. Water should flow from the bottom hole. I include fertilizer drops for this watering day. To help ammend the soil and feed them nutrients
Water when the temp is cool preferrably in the afternoon or at night π succulents in their natural habitat usually gets rain π§ π§ at night or mildew from the early morning. π
