About Sugaring
What is sugaring?
Sugaring is a method of epilation that is similar to waxing, and, for that reason, is “often called Sugar Waxing or Persian Waxing.” It has been in use since 1900 BC, “when a hairless and smooth body was considered the standard of youth, beauty and innocence for women in Egypt”. It became popular in the early 1980s when it was brought in the United Kingdom.
How does sugaring work?
Sugar waxing is a popular form of hair removal that works in the same way traditional waxing does. A thick sugary substance similar to caramel is spread on the skin in the direction of hair growth. It may be applied at room temperature or heated to a lukewarm temperature. The hair becomes embedded in the caramel. A cloth or paper strip is patted onto the caramel and then pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth, pulling the hairs out of the follicles. The advantage of this method over traditional waxing is the clean up. The sugar substance is water-soluble and can be removed easier by rinsing with water.
On what areas of the body can sugar wax be used?
Practically, in all areas of the body with unwanted hair. It is very mild and safe to use even to the most sensitive areas such as face and bikini lines. There are some exceptions though, like men should not use wax on their ge***al area. They should also avoid waxing their beard or mustache if they still plan to grow them back because waxing results to a finer and thinner hair regrows on some waxed area and therefore will yield to an uneven appearance. Wax should also not to be applied over sunburn, chapped, broken or sore skin, cuts, weak scars or eczema. Nor should it be used on varicose veins, moles or warts, inside the nose or ears and on ni***es. And remember that waxing are not recommended for the elderly or people with loose skin.
How long before hair regrows after sugaring?
With waxing, hair takes longer time to regrow because hair is removed from the roots. It takes around 2-4 weeks to grow back depending on how heavy your hair normally is. Any hair appearing before this is not regrowth, but hair which were not visible or too short for removal when waxed. Repeated waxing tends to weaken the hair follicles, thus slowly reduces the growth of hair. So the more often you wax, hair regrowth will appear much sparser, softer and finer in texture
