Hibiscus rosasinensis "Red Hot"

Gumamela is a shrub that is highly cultivated as an ornamental plant in the Philippines. It is the local term used in the Philippines for Hibiscus, China Rose, and Shoeflower. This plant has a scientific name known as Hibiscus rosasinensis. Usually, this ornamental plant grows from one meter up to four meters high.

Pertinently, gumamela flower, leaves, and roots are used as herbal medicine. This is due to the fact that this decorative shrub has numerous medical characteristics which include anti-infectious, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, anodyne, diuretic, antipyretic, emollient, and refrigerant.

When my Dad visited a Garden Store near his house 2 weeks ago, he saw some Gymnocalycium moon cacti being sold at P350. He immediately messaged me to ask if the black G. mihanovichii and G. anisitsii pups that I gave him would turn into colorful ones, too. I told him no, and I felt that my answer made him a bit sad. I knew he liked the plants he saw but he didn't want to buy them because he felt that they were too expensive. My heart cracked a bit at the knowledge. You see, my 67-year old Dad gets his enjoyment from puttering in his garden caring for his bonsai trees and other plants especially during this Pandemic.

So, I pre-ordered these 🌵from Thailand 🇹🇭 so my Dad can get his happy pill 💊, and also because this daughter's heart ♥ is not ready to be broken.

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Red Hot)

These plants require winter protection in these cooler regions and can be grown as pot plants. The hardy species such as H. syriacus are suitable for annual or mixed borders. 'Red Hot' has variegated red, green, white and pink foliage, and red single flowers with frilled margins.
