MANILA, Philippines — The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 69,898, with barely two weeks before the month of July ends.

According to updates from the Department of Health (DOH), an additional 1,521 coronavirus-infected patients were reported on Monday, majority of which came from the National Capital Region with 1,237, followed by Cavite province and Laguna with 51 each, Rizal with 34, and, Davao del Sur with 22.

The number of active COVID-19 cases or patients still undergoing treatment also rose to 43,991, DOH said.

Four additional deaths were also reported, bringing the total to 1,835, while 607 recoveries were added, totaling to 23,072 recovered patients.

Latest predictions from the University of the Philippines’ COVID-19 response team showed that the country may have 85,000 cases, with 2,000 deaths by the end of July, based on the current R-naught or reproductive number of the country.

“As of the most current week, there is an average of 2,000 cases per day in the Philippines, an increase of almost 50% from the previous week,” read an excerpt from the study.
