1921, unang kumalat ang tsismis na ang kainang Ma Mon Luk ay gumagawa ng shiopao na may karne ng pusa, ang restaurant na ito ang pinakasikat noon sa Maynila at isa ito sa siniraan ng isa pang katunggaling restaurant.

Noong panahong iyon, ay nagkataong napakaraming pusa sa Binondo, dahilan para maniwala ang iba sa tsismis na kung bakit mura ang kanilang Siopao.

Pinalitan ni Ma Mon Luk ang pader ng kanyang kusina ng salamin para makita ng mga dumadaan at parokyano na ang kanyang kainan na hindi karne ang pusa ang ginagamit. Hindi nagtagumpay ang mga nanira sa kanya at nanatiling numero-unong restaurant sa Binondo noong panahong iyon.

Bukod sa Siopao, si Ma Mon Luk din ang unang nagpauso ng Mami at Siomai sa bansa.
