The 𝟐1st 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐀 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 we will present this month is one of the most critically acclaimed Japanese drama series, First Love (初恋). Directed by Yuri Kanchiku, and starred Takeru Satoh and Hikaru Mitsushima. This series will absolutely pull you into a rollercoaster of emotions and will absolutely make you cry or even worse, yearn.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁?
First Love (初恋) is a nine episodes series following two teenagers Yae Noguchi and Harumichi Namiki who fell deeply in love with each other in the 1990’s. However, due to many unfortunate and tragic events, they drifted apart. Their life afterward hasn’t exactly been easy either. Yae became a single mother taxi driver, and had a tragic incident that changed her whole life. Harumichi took a different path from his dream. But, as fate wills it, they reunited and reconnected. They are forced to confront the memories, regrets, and unresolved feelings of their first love, exploring whether a connection that once seemed destined can survive the passage of time and the people they've become.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵?
First Love features a masterful and emotional love story. From the heartfelt and realistic performance of the cast, to the great chemistry between the main couple, this series will absolutely make you connect with them and will make you wish the series was a little longer. The fantastic use of the contrast between 90’s and present days not only in the characters but in the setting really highlights how different their world is now, and yet by miracle they managed to reunite. The most stand out is the extensive use of the “Hatsukoi” album by Hikaru Utada which served as the direct inspiration for this series.
So what are you waiting for? Grab some popcorn, prepare many boxes of tissues because without a doubt you will cry a lot when you watch this show.
