What’s a DIY Music Box

A "DIY music box" is a particular kind of music box that enables you to make and play nearly any song by using the hole puncher to create holes in a music box tape. The music box then plays the notes that correspond to the positions of the holes when you insert the tape. Most DIY music boxes use a hand-crank to advance the paper.

A 15-note music box has a musical range covering two octaves of the C-major scale (from C4 to C6). It has 15 notes without sharps or flats which is why not every song is compatible.

How does it work?
Step 1: Insert the pointed end of the music box tape in the entrance of the music box
Step 2: Crank music box to the speed of your liking
Step 3: Play and listen to your heart's content

What’s with the name?

The term "alexithymia" literally translates to "no words for emotions." It has two components, which are a person’s inability to identify one’s feelings as well as difficulty in communicating the same to others. We are committed to providing a means for people to express themselves with the help of music, hence our name.
