I was on my way back to Aklan when the bus made a stop at a terminal in Dumarao, Capiz. While looking around for baye-baye delicacies, I stumbled upon a small store selling buko pie for ₱280 per box. Without a second thought, I bought one—still hot. The filling tasted of pure buko—soft, fresh, and naturally sweet—perfectly wrapped in a warm, flaky crust. A simple stop, a sudden craving, and a taste that stayed with me all the way to Aklan❤️

Even when the day pauses—classes suspended, plans cancelled—the rain doesn’t mean everything stops. After a tedious stretch of work, picking up my umbrella felt like choosing myself. I stepped out anyway, looked for a fast food resto, rain and all, and found a small pocket of joy: Pokémon collections at Jollibee on a rainy afternoon.

“In His journey to Calvary, even Jesus allowed someone to carry the cross with Him.”

There’s a character in Jesus’ journey to Calvary that’s often overlooked.

His name is Simon of Cyrene.

He wasn’t a disciple.
He wasn’t a follower.
He wasn’t even part of the story.

Until Jesus fell under the weight of the cross
And Simon was pulled from the crowd to help.

A stranger.
Just passing by.
Interrupted.
Unexpected.
But chosen.

And maybe that’s the part that hits deep.

Because how many times have we been there like Jesus?

Carrying a burden so heavy, to the point that we feel like giving up and we can’t take another step.

And then, out of nowhere …

Someone shows up.
Someone who may not know your story.
But they sit with you.
Pray for you.
Hold space for your pain.
And carry the weight even for just a moment.

That’s a Simon.

So why am I telling you this?

Maybe this a reminder for us.

That if you’re tired today.
And if you’re quietly breaking down inside
God will send someone who will carry the weight with you.

Someone who doesn’t need to fix it.
Someone who will simply be there.

And if you’ve ever wondered why God placed you in someone’s life during their darkest moment

Maybe you’re their Simon.

And that simple act of showing up?
It might just be the moment that saves them.

Even when it’s messy.
Even when it’s inconvenient.

Because love often looks like that.

Unplanned.
Unexpected.
But exactly what’s needed.

And sometimes,
Love comes in the form of a stranger who helps you rise again.
