I know a lot has already been said about the BAD THINGS that SMOKING does to our bodies. One them is causing the decline of our cognitive functions. Smokers are said to be more at risk of conditions such as STROKE & DEMENTIA.
But still, it all doesn't seem enough. So here's another warning story from me... from our personal experience as a family.
My father had been smoking since he was 17 years old. Never stopped, except I guess during the 9 days he was hospitalized for mild stroke in 2009 and a few more days after his release. When he felt better, he started smoking again. There was nothing we could say or do to make him stop. He'd always say, I'd rather leave your mom than quit smoking. It had always been a constant cause of our many quarrels. Fast forward to this year, 2023, he was hospitalized twice for UTI, Diabetes, CKD... And to cut the story short, he's also now officially diagnosed with π
His lungs are still okay, surprisingly. But his brain is not and it has greatly affected all of our lives. It shook our lives. We needed to ask financial aid from relatives and friends for his hospitalization. Now, he needs 24/7 care because he may cause himself harm by accident. He can no longer function normally. He already forgot a lot of things and he cannot retain new memories anymore. Sometimes, he doesn't even recognize us. But lo and behold! He still remembers cigarette, asks for it and turns violent when we tell him he cannot smoke. πππ
So, if you're a smoker, STOP! For the sake of your family. It's not only your life and sanity at stake here. Theirs as well...
