Hot Chocolate on Thursday by Michiko Aoyama
I loved Michiko Aoyama's writing right after I read What You're Looking for Is in the Library. Thus, seeing promotions for Hot Chocolate on Thursday by her made me extremely excited! 🥹
And just a week ago, I got my hands on it and started reading right away! Yes, I even savored the first half of the book by pacing myself, but I couldn’t seem to drag it out any longer and finished the other half in an hour. It’s just a short book with brief but compelling chapters.
I must say, this book is artfully and cleverly written. I really appreciate the interconnectedness of the different characters through the plots and scenes across all the chapters. Also, despite the shortness of the chapters, each one ends with a sense of relief rather than feeling hanging or lacking. I feel like everything was just enough for the approach and message that this book was going for. ✨
While I was in the middle of reading, it seemed to me that this book promotes a valuable lesson to its readers: people around you, whether close to you or not, can somehow turn your “impossible” dreams and aspirations into something you can eventually live, a "reality".
One chapter of this book even defies and challenges gender stereotypes, which I really appreciate and commend. At the end of the book, there’s a teaser for its sequel, Matcha on Monday, and I’m already excited for its release this July!🌸
Overall, this book feels like a warm cup of coffee, a cozy corner spot, and a quiet afternoon of me-time, all of which I truly enjoyed. 🫶
