SAFER CITIES INITIATIVE DRIVES 15.99% DROP IN FOCUS CRIMES NATIONWIDE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a significant decline in focus crime incidents nationwide following the implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative (SCI), highlighting the positive impact of intensified police visibility, focused anti-criminality operations, and strengthened stakeholder engagement efforts.

Based on comparative data covering the 43-day period before and after the implementation of the SCI on April 6, 2026, total focus crime incidents nationwide dropped by 719 cases or 15.99%, from 4,495 incidents recorded between February 22 to April 5, 2026 to 3,776 incidents from April 6 to May 18, 2026.

All eight focus crime categories registered decreases during the monitoring period, including R**e with a 30.61% decline, Carnapping of Motor Vehicles with a 28.20% decrease, Physical Injury with a 25.93% reduction, Robbery with a 15.12% decrease, Theft with a 10.61% decline, Carnapping of Motorcycles with a 6.64% reduction, Homicide with a 5% decrease, and Murder with a 2.17% decline.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), focus crime incidents likewise declined by 8.57% during the same monitoring period, reflecting the continuing impact of intensified police operations and increased police presence in urban areas.

The PNP attributed the improvement in peace and order conditions to proactive policing strategies, intelligence-driven operations, strategic deployment of personnel, and sustained coordination with local government units and stakeholders in support of the Safer Cities Initiative being advanced by Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Juanito Victor “Jonvic” C. Remulla Jr.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., said the initial gains of the Safer Cities Initiative demonstrate the effectiveness of sustained police presence and responsive law enforcement operations in urban centers and communities.

The sustained decline in focus crimes reflects the continuing gains of the Safer Cities Initiative as the PNP strengthens proactive policing, public safety measures, and community partnership efforts under the vision of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
