A heavy rain warning and rain watch have been issued for Northland. Please take note of the very limited areas affected:

Heavy rain possible about northern parts of the North Island

A low and associated trough are expected to develop east of Northland today. These features are expected to bring heavy rain to northern parts of the North Island overnight tonight until Friday afternoon or evening.

Please stay up to date with forecasts.

Heavy Rain Warning - Orange
Area: Eastern Northland, essentially east of a line from Hikurangi to Paparoa
Period: 18hrs from 2am - 8pm Fri, 24 Apr
Forecast: Expect 100 to 140 mm of rain. Intensities of 15 to 25 mm per hour are likely and there is a chance of downpours of 25 to 40 mm per hour which may or may not be associated with thunderstorms. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.
Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.
Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.

Period: 18hrs from 4am - 10pm Fri, 24 Apr
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain are possible, and accumulations may approach warning criteria. Moderate chance of upgrading to a Warning.
