Final selections have been made for Regeneration: New Zealand Speculative Fiction II. We're looking forward to bringing you some excellent science fiction and fantasy, set in places you will recognise well and others hard to imagine. Watch this space for the Table of Contents in the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone who submitted - selecting which stories to include wasn't easy, and reading submissions has confirmed how many great NZ specfic writers there are out there. Just a few more hours until the Regeneration deadline (though the form will probably unofficially stay up until the morning :-) ). Lots of fantastic stories so far (some in both senses of the word) but the more the better.

Update on Regeneration: New Zealand Speculative Fiction II submissions.

We know a number of stories have been hindered by the busy-season, so we're extending the deadline until January 31st. If you're part way through a story but haven't had chance to finish it off, or have an idea for a new one, here's your chance. If you've already submitted, remember we do accept multiple submissions - whilst we're very unlikely to select both, having two good stories in the mix does increase your chances.

To recap, we are looking for submissions of short speculative fiction (10 000 words or under) on the theme Regeneration by New Zealand authors. All submissions selected for the anthology will receive paid publication, authors copies of the anthology, and for those who are members of Au Contraire II, the chance to win additional prizes, including a grand prize of $500 in book vouchers. Full guidelines are at https://randomstatic.submittable.com/submit.

To those who have already submitted by the original deadline, thank you for your patience. We are working on keeping up with reading as submissions come in, so we don't expect news on the result will be too much later than it would otherwise have been.

"One of the highlights of my small writing career was being published alongside one of my all time favourite authors, Juliet Marillier, in the Foreign Country anthology put out by Random Static. It was something I never even imagined could happen (and then it happened again in Tales for Canterbury!). In fact, there are so many wonderful, published authors in New Zealand, and through getting involved in the community, I’ve actually got to know some of them. And I don’t feel like that could have happened in a bigger country.

I even think that our success in putting together Tales for Canterbury was in part because we are small. There was very much a sense of people wanting to pitch in and take part because everyone knows someone in Christchurch. Many people have lived there, or have had personal experiences of the city and region. I love this reach out and help mindset that kiwi’s have, and I appreciate it now more than ever."
